It can be extremely expensive to replace goods that are stolen from your construction site. As such, it's sensible to do what you can to minimise the risk of a thief breaking into your site. Here are two ways to do this.

Don't ignore a damaged lock

Managing a construction project is a very time-consuming activity. Because of this, it is all too easy to ignore seemingly minor problems.

However, it is important not to categorise a damaged lock as a small issue and postpone calling a locksmith to fix it, as doing so could drastically increase the risk of someone stealing the valuable equipment that is kept on your building site.

While a thief may find it virtually impossible to pick a fully-functioning lock, they could break open a damaged one in just a few seconds.

If the lock in question is being used to secure a storage container, inside of which lies thousands of dollars' worth of construction equipment, the thief would then be able to gain entry to the container, steal this equipment and escape from the site in a matter of minutes.

If you discover that one of the locks on your site has sustained some form of damage that has compromised its functionality, you must act quickly. Do not wait a day or two to fix it; instead, call a 24-hour locksmith from companies like Border Locksmiths the moment you are informed of this issue and ask them to either fix the lock's damaged component or fit a brand new lock in its place.

Hire a security guard

Thieves rarely, if ever, attempt to steal goods from a building site during the day, as the presence of labourers on the site means that there is a far greater chance the thief will get caught in the act. Instead, most prefer to sneak into construction sites late at night, when there is no one around.

Hiring a security guard to patrol your construction site at night when the area is vacant is a very effective way to minimise the risk of thieves stealing expensive construction equipment and materials.

The sight of a security guard walking around the perimeters of the site will be enough to scare off most potential thieves.

Even in instances where a criminal is bold enough to attempt to gain entry in spite of the presence of the security guard, the chances of them successfully stealing your building materials is still very low, as the security guard will almost certainly spot them and call the police within seconds of them entering the site.

About Me
Planning Contractors and Construction Work

If you are planning to carry out construction work on the interior or exterior of your home, you should first take professional advice. My home is located on quite a steep hill and I decided that I would like to build an extension. Not only would this involve digging a new foundation, it would also involve backfilling some areas of land so the new extension would be properly supported. I decided to call my friend who works as a contractor for a construction company. He offered me lots of great advice and thanks to him the job was a complete success.
